North Shore-LIJ Hospitals Rated as Best in Consumer Reports

Two hospitals that are part of the North Shore-LIJ Health System were just rated among the nation’s best performing facilities in New York and nationwide for their prevention of central-line infections in their ICUs.  These results come from an in-depth study by Consumer Reports after their analysis of central line infection data from 926 hospitals in 43 states in 2008, including 112 in New York State.

According to the study results, Glen Cove Hospital had a zero infection rate for 1,731 central line days and Southside Hospital was infection-free for 2,565 central line days.

“The North Shore-LIJ Health System has a zero tolerance for preventable hospital-associated infections,” said Kenneth Abrams, MD, the health system’s senior vice president of clinical operations.  Certainly, the Consumer Reports study is good news for the North-Shore LIJ Health System, where Corey Ribotsky is a member of the Board of Trustees.
